After looking at the title, you came to know what, I am going to write.  

Yeah! Of Course and why not! 

The topic is hot and always tossed by media.  

But, “Have you known the Indian policies for drug abuse?” If no answer, keep in touch!  I am going to tell you the most interesting facts about the Indian policies for drug abuse. Facts that were not discussed by media. 

“Drug abuse is a vital problem worldwide, and it always has the potential to destroy humanity.”  

Drug addiction is not only problem of India, but actually it is a problem of the entire human race. Every time, when I saw the news, I felt truly bad, and I just thought “Are those people ideal for us? Do young people follow them? Are we going to pass on basic values of life to our future generations? "All these thoughts are running in my mind and I decided to write only to create awareness in the society. 

So, let’s take a look at Indian policies on Drug abuse. 

  • History of Drugs in India- 

900 years ago, foreign merchants(traders) arrived and introduced with opium or other drugs. The drug, which was used as medicine or treatment for diseases, but later on people started going on an addiction diet.

  •   Side effect of drug consumption- 

Victim of drug goes through vicious problems, which are like- 

  1. Peer pressure 

  1. Anxiety 

  1. Emotional disturbance 

  1. Depression 

  1. Unstable personality 

This effect is not only remained for that person but also, it is putting bad social impact on victim’s family. 

  •  List of forbidden drugs - 

Following list of drugs are prohibited in India, which are as follows- 

1.Charas, 2. Ganja, 3. Coca leaf, 4. Crude cocaine 

5.Morphine, 6. Opium, 7. Heroin, 8. Hashish 

7.Codcine etc. 

  • Indian policies on Drug abuse- 

On 14th Nov. 1985, The Narcotics Drugs and psychotropic substances Act was enacted in India. The NDPS Act came into effect in 1986. 

“It is illicit for a person to produce, or manufacture or cultivation., process, sell, purchase, transport, store, or consume any narcotic drug or psychotropic substances.”

  •  What is NCB organization- 

“The NCB is the chief law enforcement and intelligence agency of India vested with responsibility to fight drug trafficking and the abuse of illegal substances. It is called Narcotics Control Bureau.” 

The NCB has appeared in recent cases like “SSR case” and “Aryan Khan Case”. 

  • Punishment Categories according to Omission- 

Sec.18(c), 20,21 to 25,25A,27A,32 deals with the punishments for Drug Abuse.

Rigorous Imprisonment for 10 to20 years and fine not less than 1lac and extend to 2lac rs

Manufacturing and preparation of drugs 

Rigorous Imprisonment for 1year or fine 10,000 rs  or both 

 

Rigorous Imprisonment for 10 years or 1lac rs. Fine or both 

 

Rigorous Imprisonment for 10 to20 years and fine not less than 1lac and extend to 2lac rs 

 

4. 

Relation with psychotropic substances 

Rigorous Imprisonment for 1year or fine 10,000 rs  or both 

 

Rigorous Imprisonment for 10 years or 1lac rs. Fine or both 

 

Rigorous Imprisonment for 10 to20 years and fine not less than 1lac and extend to 2lac rs 

 

5. 

Illegal import and export 

Rigorous Imprisonment for 1year or fine 10,000 rs  or both 

 

Rigorous Imprisonment for 10 years or 1lac rs. Fine or both 

 

Rigorous Imprisonment for 10 to20 years and fine not less than 1lac and extend to 2lac rs 

 

6. 

Allowing premises for commission of offence 

Rigorous Imprisonment for 1year or fine 10,000 rs  or both 

 

Rigorous Imprisonment for 10 years or 1lac rs. Fine or both 

 

Rigorous Imprisonment for 10 to20 years and fine not less than 1lac and extend to 2lac rs
